Over 400,000 Waffle Makers Are Being Recalled Nationwide for Potential Burn Risk

The waffle makers were sold nationwide at Walmart, Kohls, BJ's Wholesale Club, Target, and other major retailers.

Warm and fluffy waffles are a beloved breakfast staple. They're simple to make, easy to clean up, and delicious to eat—what's not to love? But before reaching for your waffle maker, you may want to check its model. According to a recent report, 456,000 waffle makers are being recalled due to a potential burn hazard.

The alert was issued by Empower Brands, which is recalling two models (ESWM02 and ESWM03) of its PowerXLTM Stuffed Wafflizers. The waffler makers have been reported to expel food due to pressure during the cooking process, posing a potential burn risk to consumers.

The recalled waffle makers were sold at Walmart, Kohls, BJ's Wholesale Club, Target, and other major home goods stores nationwide and online from July 2021 through October 2022. The appliances were priced between $30 and $60 and were available in 11 colors including black, white, red, cinnamon, gray, lavender, lemon, ocean, slate, seafoam, and sage.

So far, there have been 44 reported incidents, including 34 burn injuries (three required medical attention), according to a statement by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The agency warns consumers to immediately stop using the recalled waffle makers. Consumers may also contact Empower Brands to receive a free latch adaptor part and written instructions to complete the repair.
